amforht in latin america plays a vital role

AMFORHT collaborates with Latin American governments to tackle the various obstacles they face to foster economic growth through a successful tourism sector.

Since 2017, Antoine Chauveau has been serving as the AMFORHT representative in Mexico.
In line with AMFORHT's mission to support governments worldwide in implementing sustainable tourism strategies through hospitality and tourism education and training, Antoine has established strategic partnerships with influential individuals such as Mr. Torruco Marques, the Tourism Minister of Mexico, and Mrs. Sheinbaum Pardo, the President of Mexico City Municipality.
He has also engaged with local authorities in Nayarit, Guanajuato, and Sonora.

Upon assessing the current state of tourism in Mexico and Latin America as a whole, Antoine acknowledged that less than half of industry professionals possess a secondary education degree.
In fact, the majority of workers strive to educate themselves to the best of their abilities.
Many destinations still face challenges in terms of infrastructure and professional offerings, particularly the absence of local networks of well-trained tourist guides with comprehensive knowledge of culture, art, history, and bilingual or multilingual skills.

The Mexican government actively works towards developing standards to promote sustainable tourism practices.
Notably, the "Sustainable Tourism Certification Program" (Programa de Certificación de Turismo Sustentable, CST) evaluates and certifies tourism businesses based on their efforts in environmental, socio-cultural, and economic sustainability.
The government also encourages sustainable tourism through awareness campaigns, capacity-building workshops, and incentives for businesses to adopt sustainable practices.
These initiatives encompass reducing water and energy consumption, minimizing waste generation, and supporting local procurement and employment.

In Latin America, AMFORHT strives to enhance the quality of education, provide relevant training, and meet the increasing demands of the hospitality and tourism industry in the region.

Collaborations between educational institutions and the hospitality and tourism sector have become more prevalent, and AMFORHT plays a crucial role in facilitating these partnerships.
